Background
The Blizzards were founded by Niall (Bressie) Breslin and Killian Egan in 2004 and the band features Declan Murphy (Drums), Justin Ryan (Guitar), Anthony Doran (Bass) and Aidan Lynch (Keyboards). They released two albums, “A Public Display of Affection” (2006) and “Domino Effect” (2008). Their debut single was “First Girl to leave Town” and reached number 11 in the Irish charts. They played Oxegen annually and supported Oasis at Slane in 2009. Other bands that they have supported include The Kaiser Chiefs, The Prodigy and AC/DC during their Black Ice world tour.
It’s been eight years since The Blizzards released their second album “Domino Effect” reaching Number 2 in the Irish Charts.
They have multiple platinum record sales and have won many awards with back to back Meteor Awards for Best Irish Live Performance in 2008 and 2009. They were nominated Best Irish Pop Act in 2010. Having three top 10 singles In the Irish Charts with ‘Trust me, I’m a Doctor’ reaching Number 2 in 2008. They worked with Michael Beinhorn producer who worked with bands like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden and Marilyn Manson.
At 35 why would I ”Drop down the Anchor”
June this year seen the release of their new single “Drop down the Anchor” with a new album release imminent. While it’s been a six year absence from the lads they all have been busy with their own projects. 2010 seen the lads move to different projects with front man Bressie moving to London to do music production while others moved to nite club and pub management.
Niall “Bressie” Breslin known for his part as a “Voice of Ireland” judge. He must be congratulated for all the work he has done in promoting mental health awareness both politically and internationally. Check out his website alustforlife.com, where he has created a movement for well-being. The movement aims to connect the dots between mental and physical health and society at large.
On the road
The Blizzards “Drop down the Anchor” was released on June the 30th. The song shows a more mature song writing although holding on to that wit that the band are known for. The new single gives a sense of a change in production style. After a well-received return to the festival scene, playing “Electric Picnic” and “Indiependence”, their return to the Olympia is a must for fans. The Olympia gig will be on Saturday 19th November.October27 and 28 see the lads fly to Abu Dhabi to play two gig in McGettigan’s.
Other dates at home will see Limelight in Belfast, Landmark in Carrick on Shannon and The Big Top in Limerick. Recognition for their comeback is also shown with joining the very successful Walking on Cars as special guests to ring in the annual New Year eve festival in Dublin to round off this year touring.
The Blizzards latest single ‘Perfect on Paper’ was premiered on the Dublin radio station Today FM and was released on October 7.
