Damo returns To Mullingar
On November 26 Damien Dempsey brings his ‘No Force on Earth’ tour to The Fence. After touring across the UK he is bringing his tour home. He will be playing throughout the country. Ending his tour in Vicar Street on the 21/22/23 December performing with his full band .
While Damien has played solo shows in Mullingar before, The Fence will offer a more up close intimate gig for his loyal fan base.’No Force on Earth’ is a collection of songs commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising. Among the songs on the album are classic covers and ones he wrote himself that cover this period in Irish history. ‘Aunt Jenny (or Jinny) is about a woman at the heart of the revolution and who’s story must be heard.
So how do you describe Damien Dempsey’s music to someone who hasn’t yet been exposed to it? ” Take some reggae, fuse it with traditional Irish music, add in rock and folk and put it all through a grounded working class worldly aware yet caring consciousness and you’re some bit of the way there”

Background
Damien Dempsey is held in high regard by his fans. Having a string of number one albums with ‘Shots’ the stand out album. While delivering this new material he will always be known for the classic ‘Apple of My Eye’, ‘It’s All Good’, ‘Sing All Our Cares Away’,’Negative Vibes’ and ‘Your Pretty Smile’. A collection of classic poetry dating back over six albums. His debut ‘They Don’t Teach This Shit in School’ was released in 2000.
He is known for his lyrics that deliver social comment. He writes on both the positive and negative aspects arising from Ireland Celtic Tiger society. Damo speaks for a section of society that were left with the consequences that this era of Irish life brought after the financial collapse of 2008.
Influencing Damien’s writing were Bob Marley, Christy Moore, Luke Kelly , Shane McGowan, Elvis Presley and Bruce Springsteen . Damo supported Springsteen, a long time hero, in Nowlan Park in 2013.
