Peter Doran - Wood

Background

Peter Doran, a native of Mullingar, released his debut album ‘Wood’ ten years ago. 2006, remembering back to a day when you walked into the local music shop Heartbeat City to buy ‘Wood’ on CD. Hotpress described the album as ”Warm and enchanting, a debut that should open doors and minds”. ‘Wood’ was the catalyst and since his debut he has recorded three more albums; Sleepless Street (2010),Overhead the Stars (2012) and Outlines (2014). The self produced ‘Outlines’ was released to critical acclaim in Ireland. Peter’s mix of vocal and melody give this album an intimacy that he is telling his own private moments.Peter Doran

Coming from a musical start in rock music over twenty years ago,Peter Doran seen the importance of song and the songwriter and changed his musical style to an acoustic base. Seeing Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Emmett Tinley in The Stables in Mullingar introduced him to this style. Beginning in a bedroom studio Peter has since recorded in Grouse Lodge and Abbey Road in London. He has toured extensively in Ireland and Europe and has been on the support card for many acts including Duke Special, Mark Geary, Declan O’Rourke and Mike Flannery.

Peter Doran & Brian Murphy’s New Project

Over the past few years different songs have been coming about for a new project that Peter is working on with his friend guitarist Brian Murphy. Brian played electic and lap steel on Peter’s last two albums. The Great Trade has  emerged from these collaborations.

Brian Murphy plays guitar for Cronin and with multi-instrumentalist Conor Mc Cauley they form Arrow in the Sky. This project known as The Grade Trade was formed while touring with Peter in the UK and Europe . A track  called ‘Blackberry Wine’ shows this collaboration. The video was recorded in Kilbeggan Distillery. It was filmed by Mark Bennett and Darragh Glennon.

Peter says in a bog about ‘The Great Trade’ that ‘Blackberry Wine’ was inspired by a book about the life of Billie Holiday that he read.
